"Simple Ray of Light" is an acoustic album of original songs written and recorded in the summer of 2016. Most of the music was played on my Hohner dreadnought, and this is my first 100% non instrumental album. The concept of this album was to focus less on the instrumentation and really spotlight the music. Instead of worrying what's going to play what, I kept it mostly simple, adding additional instruments only where it was important to have a different voice- for example, piano on "Stream.

The lyrics were written to explore and express the feelings present in the music itself, and are a representation of my mindset at the time they were written. With a few exceptions, the music came first and the lyrics are based around the guitar parts. The biggest exception is Unusual Place, for which lyrics were written hours before I picked up a guitar.

And finally, a massive thanks to my friend May Tay Tay for singing on "After the Rain", which is the oldest of these songs by far. It's been one of my favorite intrumentals for a while and May's beautiful vocals add a whole deeper dimension that brings the music to life.
