This song was based on a novel I wrote for National Novel Writing Month in 2013. The original story was about a small group of elite pilots who secretly and single-handedly protected the entire galaxy. One particular part of the story involves a massive space battle between this elite armada and a hostile alien race. The protagonists had just lost everything, decided to join the armada and hopefully save the galaxy.
I always liked that part of the story for some reason. Tension was high, nobody was at all sure what they were doing, nobody even knew each other that well.
Who won? I don't think I want to say. But either way would be catastrophic, as citizens of the galaxy soon realize.
lyrics
I only met you this morning,
Now we’re fighting side by side,
Fending off the evil hordes of darkness in the sky,
Nobody knows we’re out here,
And no one sees the fight,
Does anyone care that we’re the ones keeping them alive?
Take my hand when we take off again,
as we’re fly against the stars,
I don’t know if this will ever end,
when we’re flying against the stars,
Don’t tell me that it’s over, don’t tell me that I’m done for,
Don’t tell me that everything's way too far,
as we’re flying against the stars.
I don’t know who I am
but I hope you know who you are
I want to know if I’ll make it home again,
and I really hope you are.
I don’t even know
what I’ll do when this is over,
But it’s getting closer.
